Stand still!

After requesting something from God, most people then go on to do something in order to speed up their miracle. It will help if we understand that God’s time is the best. We shouldn’t be trying to help God as this may bring unwanted results.

In the book of Genesis, God promised Sarah and Abraham a child but it looked like God was taking too long, after all, Sarah wasn’t getting any younger. Sarah decided to “help” God by “speeding things up”. Sarah gave her maid (Hagar) to Abraham so she could conceive and bear a child for the family. This action ignited hatred between Sarah and her maid. God wanted one big blessed nation from the house of Abraham but because Ishmael (Hagar’s son) was also born to Abraham, the nation had to be divided and one of the declarations of the Lord upon Ishmael was that his descendants would live in hostility with all his brothers. The problem caused by this declaration is still in existence today, greatly impacting the world. All because Sarah would not “stand still” before God.

In Exodus 14:10, the Children of  Israel became afraid when they saw the Egyptians coming at them from behind and the red sea in front of them. There was nowhere for them to run. They cried to the Lord. Moses quickly sensed the danger of their groaning and quickly cautioned them, telling them to stand still! When God was ready, he took action and destroyed the enemies of his people.

Prayer is not a monologue but a two-way communication with God. While you talk He listens and after talking, He wants to reply so the next thing to do is to wait and listen. Unfortunately, many Christians hate the waiting part. You need to stand still after making your request known to Him. Stand still and know that He is God and that He is in control. Even when it looks like your situation is about to overpower you, don’t panic. Stand still! While standing still, you should praise him for the miracle that you are about to receive.

Lord, I realise that you are capable of answering every need I bring before you. I therefore surrender all to you. I know you are in full control. Thank you Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen[/blockquote2]
